Our StoryMy name is Trisha Lake, and I’m the owner and founder of TLC Cleaning.
My journey began in Phoenix, Arizona. When I turned 18, I was attending nursing school and raising my baby girl. While nursing felt like a stable path, I knew Phoenix wasn’t where I wanted to raise my daughter.
I moved to Fargo, North Dakota, to be closer to family and start a new chapter.
As a single mother taking on 18 college credits a semester, I cleaned a few homes on the side to make ends meet. Of course, balancing school, motherhood, and work quickly became overwhelming.
Around that time, a close friend lost her job. Seeing how stressed I was, my mom gave me advice that would change everything: “Why don’t you hire her? You pay her half, and you keep the other half.” I told her I couldn’t do that, to which she simply replied, “Trisha, that’s business.”
That one decision allowed me to keep my clients, help a friend, and finally catch my breath. Without realizing it, TLC Cleaning had taken its first real step forward.
One night around 2:00 AM, while studying, everything clicked: nursing is a wonderful profession, but it wasn’t my passion. At 3:00 AM, I called my dad, a very old-school Navy man, and told him I was leaving school to build this business. To my surprise, he said, “I support you.” TLC Cleaning was officially born in 2010.
What started as a two-person operation has grown into a company with over 85 employees serving Fargo, Grand Forks, and Detroit Lakes. Even as we’ve grown, our values have stayed the same.
I don’t see our clients as dollar signs, but as pieces of a puzzle. The right fit is someone who values our work and understands that what we really give back is time for their family, their life, and peace of mind.
Having worked without benefits myself, I’ve always believed in taking care of our team. Today, we’re proud to say our cleaners have health insurance, company vehicles, 401(k) plans, and paid vacations. We see the team at TLC as family.
Giving back is also deeply important to me. Through Cleaning for a Reason, we offer free cleaning services to people undergoing cancer treatment so that they can focus on healing, not housework.
I’m incredibly proud of how far TLC Cleaning has come and grateful for the employees and clients who have made this journey possible.
